Answers to frequently asked questions ABOUT SOUND, MUSIC & SONG HEALING TREATMENTS
In person Sessions
Where is Your Studio?
High Wycombe (HP13), Buckinghamshire, England.
IS YOUR STUDIO ACCESSIBLE?
My studio is up a single flight of stairs. If this would be inaccessible to you, please consider booking an online treatment.
HOW SHOULD I PREPARE?
Please wear loose clothing and avoid a heavy meal and alcohol beforehand. You do not need to bring anything with you. Bedding, blankets and refreshments will be provided. However, if you wish to use an eye mask, you may like to bring your own.
To facilitate as relaxed a state as possible, you are invited to lie down on the comfortable bedding provided. However, if you would prefer to be seated, that is absolutely fine, just let me know in advance.
Do Online Treatments Work?
Yes. Initially, I was sceptical too, but having participated in online sound and music healing sessions both as practitioner and recipient, I can say for certain that it can be more or less as effective as an in person treatment. Despite not being in the same room, you are still able to receive the sound vibrations and the healing intention behind them. In some ways, an online session can be an advantage: you can prepare yourself in your own way and take things at your own speed afterwards, without having to negotiate travel to and from the appointment. Of course, one great advantage is that you can benefit from sound and music healing wherever you are in the world.
WHAT PLATFORM DO YOU USE?
I have found that Zoom is currently the best platform for online sound and music healing treatments.
What If there are connectivity issues?
I will ask you for a telephone number that I can contact you on. That way, if we lose internet connection we can remain in contact and you will not be left unsupported. If the session is not viable due to connection issues – your end or mine – I will provide a full refund.
HOW SHOULD I PREPARE?
You are invited to prepare your space so that you are as comfortable as possible – on a bed, on a mat on the floor, or on a chair, as you wish. Don’t forget a blanket, pillows/cushions and an eye mask, if you would like to use one. Its good to wear loose clothes for comfort and layers are advised because body temperature can fluctuate during a treatment. Dim the lights and have some bottled or covered water handy.
You may want to set your phone to silent – unless we lose internet connection – and ask members of your household not to disturb you. It is a condition of my insurance that I must be able to see you during the treatment, so your camera will need to remain on.
Please avoid a heavy meal and alcohol beforehand.
HOW DO DISTANCE TREATMENTS WORK?
As with all healing, distance healing works by intention. I do not need to see you to be able to tune into you and do you not need to see or hear me to be able to receive the sounds that I send.
We will have a conversation before the treatment to talk about your intentions for the session, answer any questions you have and determine the right treatment for you. Ideally, this conversation will take place just before the session via a video platform or telephone, but it can also take place any time in the preceding 48 hours via email. It is good if you have a means of sending me a message during the session, if necessary, and that we are able to converse again after the session to check how you are. But if this is not feasible for lack of internet connection, or any other reason, we can still go ahead with distance healing as there are other safeguards we can put in place.
HOW SHOULD I PREPARE?
One of the advantages of distance healing is that it can take place anywhere at all. This is great for clients who cannot get to my studio but also cannot attend online healing sessions because they do not have internet access or who are adversely affected by electromagnetic devices. It is also means that you can have total privacy when receiving the healing. Some clients choose distance healing so that they can go to a special place in nature for their session; please, however, be absolutely certain that it is completely safe.
As with online healing, you are invited to prepare your space so that you are as comfortable as possible: have something to lie on, or a comfortable chair, mat or cushion to sit on. Have blankets, pillows, extra clothes and eye mask available, as appropriate. Have some bottled or covered water available. Please avoid a heavy meal and alcohol beforehand.
Online and In person sessions
WHAT SHOULD I EXPECT DURING MY SESSION?
At the start we will talk about what brought you for your treatment and your hopes for the session. You may set an intention if you wish. I will answer any questions you may have and make sure that you are comfortable.
You are not expected to do anything during the session. Simply bathe in the sound and allow it to do its work for you on a physical, mental, emotional and spiritual level.
You will hear a range of instruments, which may include voice and other instruments, such as harp, gongs, singing bowls, bells, chimes, strings and flutes. After the voice and instruments have stopped, there will also be a period of silence before you are brought back again with grounding vocal or nature sounds.
HOW LONG WIll my SESSION BE?
A typical session lasts for approximately an hour. Ideally, please schedule an hour and a half in total, to allow for recovery/processing time after the session, if needed. If you have less time than this, please let me know at the start of the session.
WHAT SHOULD I EXPECT AFTER MY SESSION?
Afterwards, you may feel relaxed, refreshed and re-energised. It is possible that you will experience a lessening of physical pain and tension, or you may receive insights into things that are concerning you. It is likely that you will feel different in some way. Occasionally, you may feel worse before you feel better. This is quite normal and in a way, it is desirable, because it is a result of the sound triggering a detoxification process. It will only be temporary. If this happens to you, please drink plenty of water, rest and be kind to yourself. You are welcome to contact me if you would like to discuss your reaction to the sound and music healing treatment.
WILL SOUND HEALING CURE ME OF A SPECIFIC CONDITION?
Sound healers and healthcare musicians do not diagnose or treat specific conditions and no set outcome can be guaranteed. Rather, we treat the whole person, addressing causes of dis-ease on physical, mental, emotional and spiritual levels.
Sound and music healing is not intended to replace medical advice or treatment.
ARE THERE ANY CONTRAINDICATIONS?
If you have any of the following conditions, please mention this at the time of booking. We can then discuss what form of treatment would be appropriate for you:
Ménière’s Disease, Tinnitus, Hyperacusis (Sensitivity to Sound), Epilepsy, Psychosis, Osteoporosis, Acute Injury/Internal Bleeding, Stroke, Thrombosis, Asthma, Diabetes, Heart Disease, High or Low Blood Pressure.
Please also let me know in advance if you are fitted with a pacemaker or have any metal implants, pins or bindings, if you are taking Warfarin, or if you are or might be pregnant.
If you have recently had surgery, it is advisable to wait for 2-3 months before having Sound and music healing.
If in doubt, please speak to your general or specialist medical practitioner for advice.
DO I NEED TO SIGN ANYTHING?
I will ask you to fill out a new client information sheet and sign to say that you agree to have a treatment from me. For online clients, I will email this to you beforehand. I also need to ask you to sign a consent form which will allow me to securely store this form in line with GDPR regulations. For more information see my Privacy Notice.
